Travelling with a vape is easy if you plan for three things: the rules, the batteries and the leaks.

1. Check the rules

Rules on carrying and using vaping products vary widely by country, airline and venue — and they change. Check official sources for your airline and destination before you travel.

2. Batteries

Many airlines require devices and spare batteries in carry-on luggage rather than checked bags. Use battery cases, and see battery safety basics.

3. Leaks

Pressure changes push liquid through coils. Fly with pods or tanks emptied or nearly empty, and pack liquids according to your airline’s rules.

The checklist

  • Device charged, locked or switched off
  • Batteries in a case, in carry-on
  • Pods emptied or stored upright
  • Charging cable
  • Destination rules checked
