Not Every Pod Needs an App

Firmware updates, account sign-ups and push notifications for a device that heats liquid. Really?

We understand the pitch. Usage tracking. Customisation. Updates. On paper, sensible. In practice, a pod asking you to create an account is a pod that has lost the plot.

The problems

  • Accounts and data you didn’t need to share
  • Features that disappear when the app stops being maintained
  • Bluetooth draining a battery that was small to begin with

Where apps make sense

Advanced devices with genuinely complex settings? Possibly. Simple pods? If I need to update firmware to take a puff, something has gone wrong.
